When came home from vacation worried something would be bad - like no toilet in the house - but also excited that maybe things had happened during our few days away. There was a toilet, but in the back bathroom, and sadly, not much had happened.
Here's how it was when we left:
It's like a nightmare with a hallway full of doors leading to either spooks or surprises. The doors are all in now, but still handle-less. I need to get on that, but boy howdy, door handles are expensive. More expensive than it seems they should be.
The mantle was sketched out except this plan is too high for me. It's being made lower. It would look nice at this height, but with the TV above, I don't want hurt necks from straining to see the screen.
Our shower was wrapped in chicken wire. Comfy.
We worked out our custom stain formula for the kitchen island. Our builder and I took a field trip to Al's Custom Finishing in the East Bay. I had an inspiration picture, a floor sample of an espresso stain and a mahogany stain. I told Al to aim for something in between, but to cut out the red. He put a plastic tub on a scale, then took a few drips of this color, that color, and another, and voila! He nailed it. It's not red, and it's not espresso dark either.
I asked him if he had done blue islands (a wild thought I had kicking around) and he said people are using blue, and that he recently did a kitchen that was white, but with a cherry red cabinet around the hood. He said it looked great, but said he didn't have photos because the designers get all the credit. He just makes the color. Al was fabulous.
This week is counter top selections and a huge tile delivery. Woot!
