For the first time that I can remember, I am down about the beginning of baseball season. Some years I had high expectations, other times only a handful of hope, but this year, I don't have any. The Giants are going nowhere. They say they are turning toward youth, yet most of their starters are old. We all waved goodbye to Barry Bonds, but there is no post-Bonds plan in place.
We went through the motions last night, eating our traditional, first game of the season hot dog meal. (Did George Bush hang
out in the broadcasting booth long enough? Every time I expressed shock
at how much time he had to hang out, Kevin would say "Would you rather
he do his job? It's better that he's there.")
Of course, we are baseball fans, so we'll still watch and root. There are moments like last night when a walk off home run excitedly ends the game. I just don't expect to see many of those happening for the Giants. Go Red Sox?
